If you think you might have a bad bight take a look below to learn more about common problems in orthodontics.

An underbite occurs when a person’s lower jaw, or mandible, protrudes forward and in front of the upper jaw. Most often, underbites can be corrected without any surgical procedures, but rather with braces.

Spacing of the teeth is often referred to as gaps between your teeth. In most occurrences, this happens because the teeth are much smaller than the space available. Other reasons for spacing of the teeth include, protrusive teeth, impacted teeth, missing teeth, or abnormal tissue attachments to the gums. These gaps can be corrected with aligners or braces.

Upper Front Teeth Protrusion

Upper front teeth protrusion is when the upper front teeth protrude beyond what would be considered normal contact with the lower jaw. This can lead to many injuries because the front teeth are so exposed. This frequently occurs due to a small lower jaw or finger and thumb sucking habits.

Crowding is just the opposite of spacing. Crowding does not allow enough space for teeth to grow appropriately. Teeth can be twisted or displaced due to a jaw that may be too small or teeth that are too large. To correct this problem, teeth may need to be extracted followed by braces to align the teeth.

The most common type of crossbite occurs when the upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth when you bite down. This can be quite uncomfortable due to biting and chewing difficulties and may be corrected with braces or an expander.

An overbite is a condition where the top teeth extend beyond the bottom teeth. This can easily be corrected with braces, however, some overbites are so minor this may not be necessary.

Open bites result from the upper and lower incisor teeth inability to touch causing added pressure to the back teeth when chewing. Additionally, this pressure may cause significant tooth wear. Due to the fact that the correction of an openbite does not tend to be permanent, it is best that this problem be corrected as early as possible.

Dental Midlines Not Matched

Dental midlines that are not being matched occurs when the center line of the upper teeth does not match that of the lower teeth. This may be caused by a drifting or missing tooth or by a bad bite and may be corrected with braces.
